![]() ![]() The gonfalon, which was used on other ritual occasions as well, symbolized the spirit of fraternity that guildsmen wished to emphasize on this occasion. At the head of each procession came the gonfalon or banner of the guild. Other guilds used the occasion to display the products of their craft. ![]() The barbers dressed two of their members as knights errant who had rescued damsels in distress the combmakers presented the doge with a lantern that when opened released a flock of birds. Some of the guilds chose to put on elaborate spectacles. For this occasion the guildsmen wore their finest robes and dressed their apprentices and workers richly as well. They then proceeded to the Tiepolo palace at Sant’Agostin, where they repeated their salutations to his wife. Each guild marched to the ducal palace, where the guildsmen saluted the doge and wished him victory and long life.
